How To Make A Submarine
Can you make a submarine out of cooking foil?
You need:
bowl of water
cooking foil, 2" by 3"
Roll the foil into a ball and put it in the water. The ball of foil will float. Even if you push it under the water, it still pops up. Now step on the ball very hard and put it back in the water (you might need to hit it with a hammer). What happens? It sinks.
Why?
The ball had little air pockets that made it float. When you flattened the ball, all the air was pushed out of these pockets. The same thing happens with a real submarine. When it is time for the submarine to go under, air is blown out of its tubes.
